Learning from Feedback in Academic Writing

 Introduccion

This collaborative activity focused on communicative competence and its implications for teaching practice. The purpose of the assignment was to reflect on the importance of linguistic, sociolinguistic, discourse, and strategic competence in English language teaching. My team and I worked together to write an academic reflection paper based on the concepts discussed in class. Although we tried to explain the topic, we faced several difficulties related to organization, grammar, spelling, and academic writing.

Evidence

For this activity, we created a collaborative academic reflection paper. After submitting the assignment, the teacher provided detailed feedback and evaluation through a rubric. The feedback helped us identify important weaknesses in our writing process, including sentence structure, coherence, grammar, vocabulary, and organization.

Materials Included

  • Collaborative reflection paper
  • Teacher’s rubric and evaluation
  • Written feedback and recommendations for improvement

Observation

During this activity, I observed that academic writing in English is more difficult than I expected. One of the main problems was the lack of organization in our ideas. In addition, our text contained many grammar and spelling mistakes that affected clarity and comprehension.

Another important issue was collaboration. Because the activity was written in a group, some parts of the paper were not fully connected. We also depended too much on digital tools to convert handwritten notes into text, which created additional spelling and vocabulary errors.

The teacher’s feedback showed us that we needed clearer sentences, better paragraph structure, and stronger understanding of communicative competence concepts. I also realized the importance of proofreading and revising academic work carefully before submitting it.

Reflection

This activity helped me understand that academic writing requires organization, clarity, and careful revision. Although our grade was low, the feedback was very useful because it allowed me to identify my weaknesses and understand how I can improve my writing skills.

I learned that communicative competence is not only related to grammar and vocabulary, but also to the ability to communicate effectively in different social and educational contexts. I also learned that teamwork requires better communication and revision to create a more coherent final product.

After receiving feedback, I understood the importance of using short and clear sentences, organizing ideas logically, and checking grammar and spelling before submitting assignments. This experience motivated me to improve my academic writing and become more confident when expressing ideas in English.

Conclusion

Overall, this activity was an important learning experience. Even though we made many mistakes, the feedback helped me reflect on my learning process and recognize the importance of academic writing, collaboration, and continuous improvement in English language teaching.
